General Information On Liposuction

Liposuction is now one of the most commonly used surgical procedures in USA as well as around the world. Liposuction is also commonly known as lipoplasty. This is a type of cosmetic surgery that enabels the doctors to remove unwated fat from many areas of the body. This surgery is expected to produce high-quality results and is blooming rapidly right from the time of its invention. Liposuction was invented in 1974 by Dr. Giorgio Fischer, a gynecologist who hailed from Rome, Italy. Thi surgery then spread to the "Fashion Country", i.e. France. Dr. Illouz, a plastic surgeon took it to Paris and from there this surgery started gaining popularity. From there, it reached to the United States of America in 1980 and has since been gaining popularity despite many rise and falls. However, one major turn was brought by Dr. Jeffrey Klein, M.D. in 1985. He invented the tumescent technique. This technique allows the anesthesia (chemical used in the process of numbing a particular area in the body) of large areas of subcutaneous fat.

Liposuction can be done on people of all ages. The patient can be anyone who has a normal weight and has some some extra fat on his/her body. However, one of the major requirements is that the patient should be physically healthy and psychologically stable.

There are various methods of Liposuction. Presently, there are nine ways that have been clinically identified for performing Liposuction surgery. Namely they are - :

1. Tumescent Lipoplasty /Superwet Liposuction: in this procedure, anesthetic liquid is injected. It numbs the area and is considered the safest method of them all.

2. Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL): A tube is inserted that produces ultrasonic energy that causes the fat cells to gently liquefy. Hence it is more easliy extracted.

3. LySonix UltraSculpt: UltraSculpt utilizes LySonix technology to gently liquefy and remove fat from the most sensitive and delicate areas of the body.

4. VASER LipoSelection: LipoSelection distributes ultrasonic energy to break up fat and transform it into a liquid.

5. Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL): uses special instruments to power the cannula. This reduces the amount of physical work the plastic surgeon does during surgery, thus saving a lot of time and effort.

6. Non-Surgical: a fiber optic laser that focuses on fat is inserted through very small incisions in the body.

7. Laser Lipolisis

8. LipoSonix: SonoSculpt: This company named LipoSonix. It has invented SonoSculpt. This uses a high intensity ultrasound technology to remove fat.

9. UltraShape: UltraShape is a machine that melts fat using high frequency ultrasound paddles.

Whatever be the process used, the basic aim of every process comes to the same conclusion - the removal of unwanted fat from the body to give it the desired shape. With the advancement of technology, there are some dangers of this surgery. After the surgery, there are some lumps and bumps which are common effects of this surgery. Post-operative liposuction scars are permanent and cannot be removed. Infections may arise which may be mild or severe. The ultrasonic liposuction may cause permanent burns on the body.
